Students:

A large number of students participate in different activities such as programming contests outside the institute such as Microsoft Imagine Cup, ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC), IBM’s The Great Mind Challenge (TGMC) and have represented the institute up to final rounds of challenge. Students also represent institute in technical paper presentations. Students of the department have also been involved in sports, cultural events, industrial projects and other moral and social welfare activities.

Few highlights:

  • Since last 8 years, department’s students are representing NIT Kurukshetra in the most reputed ACM Programming Contest organized by IIT Kanpur & performing very well.
  • ACM-ICPC is the most reputed multitier, team-based, programming competition known worldwide. This year one of our teams finished in the top 10 teams of the Asia Region Context.
  • One of the department’s team was ranked 18th in the prestigious International team-oriented software engineering contest known as IEEE SCORE2011 which is held simultaneously with IEEE International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE). This was the only team from India which could reach Top-20 internationally.
  • Suzail Ahmed, another student participated in Innovative Project Contest at IIT, Bombay during 2012 & was awarded 2nd position at National Level.
  • Three students of B.Tech. 3rd year participated in Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012 and got placed among top 33 teams from India. IBM TGMC participation by 3 teams in 2012-13 and one team reached the final round

Sports Awards

  • Jyesta Hema Parvathi (11400206) B.Tech (IT) 3rd year was declared best Athlete in girls with 6 Golds , 3 silvers and 1 Bronze at Annual sports festival of NIT Kurukshetra  CITIUS’17(10-12 Feb. 2017). She also got Gold Medal in Triple Jump and Bronze in 4X400 Realy race at All India inter NIT on 3-5 Nov. 2017, held at MNIT Jaipur, recently in 7th Sem.
  • Aarti Sharma (1142055) B.Tech (CSE) 4th year is a Captain of College Volleyball Girls team. Her team got 1st position in Inter Technology University Sports Association (I.T.U.S.A) Volleyball Tournament on 6-8 Oct. 2017 held at NIT Kurukshetra. Ayushi Mittal (1140899) B.Tech (CSE) 4th year also participated in same event. This team also got silver Medal in SPARDHA 17 held at IIT BHU Varanasi from 25-31 Oct. 2017.
  • Monika (11610597), B.Tech (IT) 2nd year got Gold Medal in Hammer Throw at All India inter NIT on 3-5 Nov. 2017, held at MNIT Jaipur. She also got Gold Medal in same event at All Indian inter NIT held at 8-10 March 2017, NIT Kurukshetra.
  • Deepak Kumar (11620071), B.Tech (IT) 2nd year got Gold Medal in Javelin Throw at All India inter NIT on 3-5 Nov. 2017, held at MNIT Jaipur.
  • Banoth Praveen, B.Tech (IT) 2nd year got Silver Medal in 4X100 Relay Race and 200 meter Race and Bronze Medal in 100 meter Race at All India inter NIT on 3-5 Nov. 2017, held at MNIT Jaipur.
  • Rahul Chauhan, B.Tech (IT) 2nd year student got 3rd position in two chess competitions ITUSA 7-8 oct 2017 and SPARDHA IIT BHU 27th-29th Oct 2017.
  • A team of Sarika and Ranjana B.Tech. (CSE) final year and Manasa and Shalini B.Tech (IT) 2nd year got 1st position in two chess competitions ITUSA 7-8 oct 2017 and SPARDHA IIT BHU 27th-29th Oct 2017.
  • A team of girls Snigdha B.Tech final year IT, Bhagoti third year IT, Priya Yadav (CO) and Shalini (IT) of 2nd year got 2nd position in two basketball competitions ITUSA 7-8 Oct 2017 and SPARDHA IIT BHU 27th-29th Oct 2017. Same team has got 3rd position in Haryana Khel Mahakumbh, Kurukshetra on 27-29 Sep 2017.
  • Banoth Praveen, B.Tech (IT) 1st year got Silver Medal in 4X100 Relay Race and Bronze Medal in Long Jump at All India inter NIT on 8-10 March 2017, NIT Kurukshetra.
  • Anshul Malik B.Tech Final year CO student got 3rd position in Basketball competition in Haryana Khel Mahakumbh, Kurukshetra on 27-29 Sep 2017.
  • A team of Soumya and Sarika (CSE students), were awarded Gold Medal in Chess Tournament during SPARDHA'15held at IIT BHU Varanasi, Oct. 3l-Nov.1, 2015. Same team along with Ranjana (CSE) also got Gold medal in two events IT USA-2016 and URJA held at Thapar University Patiala, in 20l6
  • Deeksha (CSE Student) got 2 Gold, 1 Silver medals in various Athletics events during Inter- NIT Athletics tournament held at NIT Kurukshetra, March 4 - March 6, 2017.
  • Hema (IT Student) got 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals in Athletics events during A.I.I.N.I.T held at MNIT Jaipur, Jan.2016 and 3 Gold, 2 Silver Medals in Athletics events during Inter-NIT Athletics tournament held at NIT Kurukshetra, March 4 - March 6, 2017.
  • Snigdha (IT Student) got 1 Bronze' in ITUSA held at NIT Kurukshetra in 2016 and 1 Bronze in Basket Ball Tournament during A.I.I.N.I.T. held at MNIT Jaipur in 2016.
  • Two students Priyanka (11510557) and Ravisha (11510178) of B.Tech 3rd year got Gold Medals in 4X100 and 4X400 Race during Inter-NIT Athletics tournament held at NIT Kurukshetra, March 4-6, 2017.

  • Sidhant Garg got best paper award in 2nd ICCDM 2016.

Moral, Social and Spiritual Activities of the Deptt.

In the highly technical environment of the institute the students should also inculcate moral and ethical values, patriotism and service of the humanity. For this purpose, various activities have been performed time to time. Few of them are given below:

  • Students of M.Tech. Program organize Hawan and run Self-Study group weekly for Moral, Cultural and Spiritual upliftment under the supervision of Dr. R.K. Aggarwal.
  • Students of M.Tech. (Diksha Sheokhand and Jyoti) participated actively in Shiksha group of institute to give free education for the children of mess workers and labors.
  • Dr. R.K. Aggarwal has written many Hindi books to inspire students towards their rich and divine heritage. Few of them are given below:

  • Students of the department are also active in various social welfare activities:
  • Mr. Vishal Passricha (PhD Scholar) – Cleanliness Drive (Swachchhta Abhiyan)
  • Mr. Arush Anand (B.Tech. 2nd year) – Volunteer of ROOH-Ek Muheem

ROOH is an official social society working for the unprivileged children by providing them free quality education. It also organized blood donation camp.

NIT Kurukshetra is one of the premier technical institutes of the country. Founded in 1963 as Regional Engineering College Kurukshetra, the institute was rechristened as National Institute of Technology on June 26, 2002.
