ANTI RAGGING DRIVE
As per directives of the MHRD Govt of India/ UGC regulation 2009 for controlling ragging in the Institute, the Institute is very well prepared to prevent any possible ragging incident in the Institute. To take stock of the situation the Director convened a meeting of top Institute officials & district police administration at 8 PM on 27.7.2009 in his office. Dr V.K. Arora, GM (Faculty welfare & Students Discipline) apprised in the meeting that Institute has created a very responsible post of Professor in- charge (Ragging Control). Presently this post is given to Dr V.K.Bapai AP in MED and NCC officer. He informed that Institute has constituted the “Anti Ragging Committee”, “Anti ragging Squad”, flying squads and teams of staff members to prevent any possible ragging incidents.
Anti ragging committee is headed by worthy Director himself, other committee members are Dean (P&D), Dean (Academic), GM (FW & SD), Chief Wardens of boy’s and girls’ hostel, Professor in-Charge (Ragging Control), Registrar, President of teacher’s association and president of Karmachari Sangh. Some senior students, freshers and their parents will also be included in this committee.
Anti Ragging squad is headed by Dean (SW & TP), other team members are Deputy Chief Wardens boy’s and girls’ hostel, Prof in Charge (Academic), Prof in charge (T&P), Professor in charge (ragging control), Professor in charge (security) & DR (GA).
Teams consisting of faculty members and teaching supporting staff have been put on anti ragging duty in first year hostels from 4.30 pm to 9.30 pm on all working days and from 9 AM to 9.30 pm on holidays to prevent any possible ragging incidents in and around the hostels.
9 flying squad teams, consisting of mainly wardens and Mess managers, will have strict vigil and will conduct surprise checks in and around hostels during odd hours i.e. after 9.30 PM till morning.
One special flying squad has also been formed to check any possible ragging incidents at potential public places like; Parks, railway station, bus station, canteen etc.
Moreover the Institute has identified 46 key locations in the campus where anti ragging boards have been installed. These boards mainly depicts: (i) Banning of Ragging in the Institute (ii) quantum and nature of punishments to defaulters (iii) Helpline numbers of institute officials.
Institute has also installed Ragging Complaints Box in all first Year Hostel’s messes. These will be opened and checked daily by the members of The Anti Ragging Squad.
GUIDE LINES FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS
- Each student must note full personal details of his room partners including his home contact number and home address in his diary. If any student goes any where, may be within his own hostel, it must be in the knowledge of his room partners. Each Student should be able to recognize fellow students so that he is able to distinguish between seniors & new entrants.
- Do not give your mobile numbers to your seniors.
- While going to class and coming back to hostel move in large groups (more than 5 students in a group).
- Any ragging incident should be reported as early as possible. Students may drop their complaint in ragging complaint box which has been put in the dining halls. Ragging complaint must bear student’s name, contact number, signature, time, date and place of incident. Late reporting may dilute gravity of the complaint.
- During interaction with your seniors be respectful to them.
- Hostel gate will be locked from outside (small passage in the gate from inside) from 10.00 PM to 6.00AM. Observe these timings.
- Your presence in the hostel may be checked at any time during above period. So, if someone is not present in the hostel during above period, he must inform MMCA of the hostel.
- Do not enter into senior’s hostels.
- Don’t join any unofficial tea party organized by seniors and avoid any unofficial meeting with your seniors at any public place.
- Your career and honour is directly connected with the image of the Institute. Any dent in it’s image will also affect your own prestige. So up keep the honour of the Institute.
- First year girls students should not go to public places on their own like NIT market/University market etc. At weekend security will be provided in NIT market from 4.30pm to 6.00pm, during this period you can visit NIT Market.
- Use of mobile phones is not allowed in the class rooms. Defaulters will be penalized and their mobiles may be confiscated.
- None of your actions should disturb other residents of the hostel.
Senior students and fresher students must follow rules & regulations as given in the “Hand Book of Information” and appended as Annexure ‘A’
