TEQIP

The Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), funded by the World Bank, aims to upscale the on going initiatives of GOI to enhance efficiency and dynamism in technical education.  It was launched by MHRD as a Rs. 1339 crore programme during the 10th plan.  Haryana is one of the six states which had been selected to participate in the first cycle of the first phase of the programme, based on their commitment and preparedness for the project.  The agreements were signed in February 2003 between GOI, the six participating states and the World Bank.

Following are the Objectives of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme:

Improving undergraduate teaching learning process.

Increasing facilities for undergraduate education.

Increasing efficiency and effectiveness of the education process through  better academic discipline and improved governance.

Improving post-graduate and research programmes.

Improving Sponsored Research and Consultancy activities.

Starting new PG programmes.

In Haryana, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra has been selected as a Lead Institution; and eight neighboring institutions, NIT, Srinagar; NIT, Hamirpur; NIT, Jalandhar; YMCA, Faridabad; DCR Uni. of  Sci. & Tech., Murthal; KUK; GJU, Hissar; Govt. Polytechnic,Nilokheri – have been attached to it as Network Institutions.

The Institute is to receive the funds to the tune of  19.00 crores spread over the period of 5 years.

The development activities in the Institute under the following heads are progressing well.  Efforts are also being made to have joint programmes with Network Institutions:

- Modernization of existing labs & workshops
- Staff and faculty development
- Procurement of books and other learning resources
- Networking Activities
- Services to Community & Economy
