DEPARTMENTS MECHANICAL MECHANICAL ENGG INDUSTRIAL ENGG AND MANAGEMENT · ABOUT THE COURSE · LABORATORY · FACULTY · COURSE SCHEME ABOUT THE COURSE-: Industrial Engineering and Management is an interdisciplinary course which was introduced to bridge the gap between hardcore engineering and management sciences. It is the engineering discipline that offers the most wide-ranging array of opportunities in terms of employment, and it is distinguished by its flexibility. It involves development and implementation of practical systems to solve many of the industrial problems. This may take place at the level of production, where an industrial engineer is involved with operational performance, making use of energy resources, calculating production costs, or ensuring that processes are running smoothly. Industrial engineering encompasses the area of product quality control, transportation, and industrial processes.
Industrial Engineering draws upon the principles and methods of engineering analysis and synthesis, as well as mathematical, physical and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems. Industrial Engineering is at the heart of the systems that are essential to our society. From airlines to online retailers, from hospitals to manufacturers, from telecommunication companies to world-wide shipping companies, industrial engineers design solutions to improve the performance of complex systems of people, technology, and information. In lean manufacturing systems, industrial engineers work to eliminate wastes of time, money, materials, energy, and other resources, whereas most engineering disciplines apply skills to very specific areas, industrial engineering is applied in virtually every industry. The Industrial Engineering and management programme prepares undergraduates to: Ø Design, develop, implement, and improve integrated systems that include people, materials, information, equipment, and energy using appropriate analytical, computational and experimental practices Ø Conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner Ø Work and communicate effectively with colleagues at every level in the organization Ø Imbibe in them skills and education they need to learn key mathematical and scientific principles Ø Grow and encompass services and other industries in addition to manufacturing. Ø Be responsible for productivity improvements, supply chain optimization, project management, feasibility studies for new technologies and applications. Ø Just-in-time implementation, health care management and logistics, and systems integration. Ø Manage & Develop various Information Systems. So going by the need the department of mechanical engineering NIT Kurukshetra started an undergraduate course in Industrial Engineering and Management from the year 2006
GOALS Ø To design, create, assimilate, apply, and transfer knowledge for the, analysis, improvement and implementation of complex systems that include humans, materials, equipment and other resources. Ø Providing value-based education by imparting engineering and managerial skills to steer manufacturing, service and research organization to compete global standards. Ø Growing into Centre of Excellence in industrial engineering and management with emphasis on academics, training and research. Ø Instituting exchange Programme with globally renowned universities. Ø Promoting entrepreneurship development. Ø Innovative educational curriculum and learning experiencesØ Positive and diverse learning environmentØ Beneficial outreach/technology transfer activities.
